We have a friend who raises horses and loves to teach kids to ride. She was getting a horse tail cut for a friend of mine to use in an art project so Tom went out to pick it up. He took Jayden and Jeff with him. This was Jayden's first time to sit on a horse. In case you can't tell.......it is a miniature! Jeff got to sit on the horse, too.
At first Jayden wasn't too sure!

Then, with Papa holding onto her, she got used to it a bit.

Then it was Jeff's turn!

They had fun and I hope they get to go back soon and ride!
The previous post was from the actual day of their birthday but we also had an official party that weekend! Here are the pictures.
The cake - They shared a cake. On the left is Joey's side (his nickname is MOOSE) and the right side is Justine's (her nickname is DRAMA)

Here's the whole gang ready for the party!

Now the twins just as they got their cake in front of them. So....kinda the before shots

And now for the traditional "after" shots!!

Jayden was having a great time, too!

And here is a shot of Jeff and Dad
And last (but CERTAINLY NOT least!!!!) The MOM - Annette

HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY JUSTINE AND JOSEPH!!!!
OK, so this isn't really NEW as such. I completed it the beginning of March actually. But I forgot to take a picture of it before I gave it to Jeff to wear! Now, I finally got to take a picture or two so I thought I would post it.
This is my very first knitted sweater EVER! It took a while but I think now I pretty much understand cables. I think it turned out well!

Here are some detailed shots. This is the front of the sweater. Can you see the cables? They form a kind of "V" shape

Here is the back - just the same really

And here is one of the sleeves. They have the cable running all the way from the cuff to the shoulder in a single line.

I didn't realize how long it had been since I posted here until I logged on today to post pictures from the Twins First Birthday!!! I had such good intentions --- Christmas pictures, Jayden's first haircut, etc. But, I'll just start from today and continue on.
Yep, yesterday, April 30th, was the first birthday for Joey and Justine (aka Moose and Drama) Last night Josh, Annette, Jeffrey, Jayden, Annette's friend Carrie and Tom and I had a party at their house. There is another party coming up on Saturday when more family can be here because it is the weekend.
Annette got an ice cream cake with Happy 1st Birthday Drama and Moose written on it.

Here are the twins all dressed up when we got there.

Justine with Carrie

Joey with Annette
The were stirpped down to their diapers before they got a finger on their ice cream cake!! Makes for much easier clean-up!!

Joey

Then they get all ready to blow out the candle!!

Both Joey and Justine had a "fun" realization of just how cold an ice cream cake is!!

But both finally got into it and enjoyed their cake, Joey in the picture above and here is Justine after getting over the shock of the cold.

Of course, not to be outdone, Jayden had her cake, too!

Here is big brother Jeffy with the twins

Below are some other pictures we took while we were there.

Josh, Papa and Jayden

And just some more pictures

Our little Jayden is one year old today!! Here are some pictures of her birthday party from yesterday.
Stephanie (Annette's oldest daughter- 12) and Jeffrey spent the night with us the day before the party. So they made the welcome signs to put on the door.
Being the DIVA, when she first arrived she donned her tiara! Her Papa is really proud of her......can you tell?????

She is SOOOOO close to walking! She loves to walk with people holding her hands. Here is the DIVA ready to take off any day now!

Let's see the party table and the cake and the balloons!

The cake has a tiara comb, a hand mirror and a princess (aka DIVA) bracelet. The three crayon candles are not significant of any number......maybe she'll have artistic tendencies when she gets older????? We can only hope!

These are the birthday princess' balloons. Gotta love the tiara!

Here's the whole crew, wishing Jayden the happiest first birthday EVER!!
(l to r back row)Papa, Uncle John, Aunt Becky, Annette (l to r front row)Samantha, Lucas, Jeffrey, Matt, Stephanie, Devon, A.J. and Josh

Jayden is ready to start the party. "Can we please begin now????" The others at the table are Annette, Devon and A.J.

OK, so now we HAVE to have the traditional "kid eating their first birthday cake" pictures!! Here they are - in sequence
This first one is all of two seconds after the piece of cake was set in front of her. She required no encouragement to dig in!

The rest are self-explanatory!

Needless to say, we had a really fun time cleaning her up to get ready to open presents! Here is a picture of her with her first quilt. (pictures of her quilt are in another recent post)

Her quilt

I went to their home today to visit for a little while and got a picture of here in one of her new outfits. It says "Little in size...Big in attitude!"

For a year now this little wonderful girl has brought us such joy and happiness there aren't enough words to adequately tell the whole story. The next years will only bring more of the same I'm sure. Happy Birthday little angel!!
Jayden's first quilt is a very special one to me...and hopefully someday to her also. My maternal grandmother had a quilt of Sunbonnet Sue that I remember from my time visiting her when I was a little girl. It has been lost to the family. No one seems to know what happened to it. So, the next best thing was to make one myself.
What better occassion than for our first granddaughter?! This quilt was made in honor of Jayden's great-great-grandmother, Inez Skinner. She was a wonderful woman of faith, strength and integrity. I loved her very very much and still miss having her around. She is a great role model for Jayden. I thought of her a lot while making this quilt. So, this one is a much for you MaMa as it is for Jayden. I'll be sure to tell her all about you!
Jayden's first quilt - front

Front - detail All of Sue's pieces were hand done with a blanket stitch.
Each Sue was stitched around free motion and then a grid pattern on the block background All the sashing was stitch in the ditch.

Quilt back What you can't see very well is on the outside border I quilted with a 2" Sunbonnet Sue pattern
Quilt back detail 1 I enlarged the original Sue pattern to make the one for the backing with her name embroidered in the hat and her birthdate on the edge of the apron.

It was a long time in the making but it was definitely a labor of love!
Annette sent me a bunch of new pictures of the kids today. Hope you enjoy them.
It looks like Justine is telling someone about something!! Trying to get a nap no doubt!

Ahhhhhh THAT's better!!

Sometimes they both get to sleep in mom's lap!

I think they are starting to look more alike these days. What do you think?

Now here's some pictures of Joey

And my personal favorite of Joey!

Here's some pictures of Justine

Back to sleep again..................

Now for the rest of the kids
Jayden at the park on the slide

and on the swing

Jeffrey on the bumper cars at the state fair

Now the whole crew at Stephanie's birthday

The twins were at the doctor today and they are doing well in the growing department. Joey is over 10lbs and Justine is over 9lbs. Joey has a bad respiratory problem but they now have him on some medicine that should clear it up soon.
It took a little while but I finally am getting to put up some new pictures of the babies. The first ones are of Jayden when I gave her the Diva Pig Bag. The pink thing on the floor is her sleeping mask (complete with her name embroidered on it!). Also there is her Diva Wand she got on July 4th.
Jayden opening her Diva Pig Bag

Jayden with her Diva Wand (also notice the little princess crown on her onsie!)

Here is a picture of Jayden with Annette and then with her Papa.

Now here are Justine and Joe in their crib and then in their bouncy chairs. Joey's onsie says "It's not going to change itself!!" and Justine's says "Daddy does my hair!"
JOEY AND JUSTINE

JOEY

JUSTINE

When Jayden was a tiny baby she would make these cute little snorting noises - and she ate like a lumberjack! Hence, she acquired the nickname - Pig. Since she has gotten older (She is almost 11 months!) she has acquired another nickname - DIVA! So, now, we often combine the two and call her Diva Pig. I know, I know..... the pig part will have to go pretty soon! Somehow I don't think she will care much for it but for now it is a term of delighted endearment!
I was shopping at JoAnn's the other day and found this little 5.5" square canvas carry bag. TOO CUTE!! Jayden NEEDED it! Really!!! So, I stenciled on a wand (she also has a diva wand she got for the 4th of July (you can see the picture below in the 4th of July section. It's the second one down). Then I ironed on the gemmed DIVA. On the back I found an adhesive backed "jeweled" crown and put it on. I already had some pink boa (I mean - you never know when you might need some, right?) so I sewed that around the top. I also had some pink elastic cord and a little pig button. Those were sewn onto the side.
So, here it is: DIVA PIG BAG

and the back

I'm going over to their house tomorrow for my "baby fix" and I'll give it to her then. I'll post picture of her and the diva loot inside tomorrow.
Well, it was inevitable I think. The fourth of July a couple of years ago began the healing of some relationships and a very extended family. We often refer to ourselves as the "Jerry Springer family". Although, since we all get along I'm sure we would not be good subjects for the Jerry Springer show. We actually had a great time together on the 4th. Below are some pictures.
